More Affordable Asian TravelYou can find Bangladesh in South Asia, bordering the Bay of Bengal to the south, Mostly surrounded by India and bordering Myanmar in the Southeast. Whilst visiting Bangladesh you may well wish to visit the bustling capital city of Dhaka, an intense and thriving, metropolis of some 12 million people that's growing every day. Cox's Bazar is the country's premier beach resort, filled to the brim with lots of boisterous Bangladeshi holiday makers. Also whilst there you will wish to visit Jessore which is a quiet non-descript small town, and is the most likely transit point to or from Kolkata, which is famous for a sweet cake like food item that is known as Gur that is produced from the extract of the date tree. The main stumbling block that you will face for a visit to Bangladesh is the travel. The main gateway into the country is via the capital city Dhaka and the ZIA International Airport. Although Sylhet and Chittagong also receive international flights. Biman Air is one of the national carriers, connecting with a few hubs through the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Biman Air does have a bad reputation for punctuality, cleanliness and safety. They have a bad reputation also for canceling flights due to mis-planning and lack of extra back-up aircrafts. Another national carrier is called Indian. GMG Airlines is the private airline carrier which operates international flights to Dhaka from Kolkata, Bangkok, Delhi and Kathmandu. GMG Airlines is a lot better managed than Biman Air. British Airways and Thai Airways offer some international flights which stop in Chittagong and Sylhet en route to or from Dhaka. The majority of major alliances such as Star Alliance and One world fly to and from Dhaka regularly as well. British Airways flies non-stop between Dhaka and London. Whilst you are trying to arrange your dream trip to Bangladesh, do not be afraid to ask any of the airlines you are considering what flights and offers they have available. While most company's have discounts they are not always on view for the general public, but they are usually available upon request. Nearly all airlines have announced special fares and special tour packages for the forth coming summer holidays, people who have planned their holidays early are now reaping the benefits of early booking. The vast majority of family holiday makers come to Bangladesh during April and May and head towards tourist destinations, particularly to the hill stations and the seaside resorts. This year there will be a fairly vast difference. Affordable air travel and the rise of middle class incomes are making travel quicker and a lot more comfortable. The popular misconception of air travel as being unaffordable is now beginning to change and flying is becoming the preferred choice for most middle class families who wish to holiday in India. National carrier Indian has introduced a wide variety of promotional schemes, in a bid to catch the summer exodus to Bangladesh. They have reintroduced the "Spot Far" offer, whereby the low last-minute fares would be available to passengers. The carrier has also introduced holiday packages, "Flyaways", offering a single window holiday convenience to passengers for a complete holiday. |
